For Whom He Fights Page 8
Michael laughed, “Aw, what, no hello? No, I missed you?”
Andronaisa narrowed her eyes. “You think I missed you? You nearly killed me, twice!” She wasn’t going to let him get the best of her. She wasn’t going to let him see how scared she was. “You need to leave.”
“Or what? You’ll call the cops? Baby, I am the cops,” Michael stalked toward her.
Andronaisa stepped back and swallowed. She needed to get her phone and call someone.
“Scared? Well, you should be! You left me Andy.”
“What was I supposed to do? You nearly killed me!” Andronaisa yelled. “Now, I’m going to ask you nicely once more, to please get out of my house. Or I will call the cops.”
There was a resounding smack as Michael’s hand connected with Andronaisa’s face, and she stumbled. “You don’t get to threaten me! You forget, I own you Andronaisa.”
Andronaisa swallowed, rubbing her cheek. “You don’t own me. I’m not a piece of property.”
“You stupid bitch!” Michael raised his hand to hit her again, but just as he did, there was a crash, a growl, and something big and furry knocked him down.
The werewolf gave a look at Andronaisa and then bared his teeth at Michael.
“You think you have the right to challenge me for her? She’s mine!”
Andronaisa yelped and scrambled back. She watched the wolf, who she now assumed was Kurt, and Michael fight, and it was unlike anything she had seen before. Kurt let out a snarl and launched into Michael while he was making the change from man to wolf. Michael dropped to the ground with Kurt on top of him, and he used his arms to keep Kurt’s mouth away from his face. As soon as claws appeared, they tore into Kurt’s flesh, sending him howling. While Michael was in his between stage, they fought like men, but as soon as Michael completed the change, they fought like animals. Full of snapping jaws and claws. Andronaisa winced when she saw Michael’s claws slice across Kurt’s face. She watched Kurt stumble for a minute, but then he was back up and slammed his body into Michael. Michael crashed into the coffee table and was dazed, but he quickly shook it off and with a snarl, ran toward Kurt. Kurt was ready for him. He jumped and landed on top of Michael and took his neck into his jaws. Just enough to warn him. He could snap his neck if he dared. Michael instantly surrendered. He let his body go slack. He was not ready to die. So instead he surrendered. For now.
Andronaisa watched as Michael rolled over onto his back as a form of surrender. She read that when wolves surrendered in a fight, they would roll on their backs and expose their bellies. Kind of like dogs. However, when a wolf submitted, they offered their necks to the victor. So Michael wasn’t submitting. He was only surrendering. Michael got to his feet and walked out with his tail between his legs. Something told Andronaisa that this wouldn’t be the last they saw of him. She turned to look at Kurt.
“Wait!” she called when he started to run. “Thank you.”
Kurt looked at her before walking out the front door. A few minutes later, he returned fully dressed and walked on two legs instead of four. He smiled as he walked over to Andronaisa. “I will always fight for you, Andronaisa,” he said and kissed her.
In Kurt’s opinion, the taste of her mouth was just as sweet as the first time they had kissed. She tasted like pineapple with a bit of spice, like hot sauce. It was a weird combination, but he loved it. Kurt cupped Andronaisa’s face with both his hands, deepening the kiss. He felt her mouth open wider to let him inside. He let out a moan. Or maybe she let out a moan. Someone moaned and Kurt just couldn’t help but devour her mouth. His tongue explored all the sides of her mouth and he gave her lip a little nip before pulling back.
“Wow,” Andronaisa breathed. “I don’t think I have ever been kissed like that.”
Kurt chuckled, “Sorry.”
Andronaisa smiled. “No. Please, don’t be sorry. I loved it. But, um, maybe we should talk about all of this?”
Kurt started to respond when George walked into the house. “What in the hell happened here?!”
Kurt gave a sheepish grin. “Oh, um...”
“Michael,” Andronaisa replied. “Michael was here and Kurt beat him.”
“And in doing so wrecked my living room!”
“I’m going to clean it up George!” Kurt protested.
George looked at him. “Well, what are you waiting for? Get to it.”
Kurt looked at Andronaisa. “We’ll talk later. I promise.”
George frowned, but decided she didn’t want to ask. “I’m going to shower. By the time I come out, this living room better be spotless.”
Kurt gave a mock salute, “Yes ma’am.”
Andronaisa laughed, “God, you are just like Stephane.”
George just glared at them as she headed to her bedroom. Andronaisa frowned, but then started helping Kurt.
“No, I got it.” He stopped her and cupped her face. “I’m so glad he didn’t do more than this.”
“He was going to if you hadn’t stopped him. How did you know anyway?”
“I was driving by. I had to drop something off for George and I heard you yell. But when I saw his car, I knew.” Kurt stroked her cheek.
Andronaisa cleared her throat when it looked like Kurt was going to kiss her again. “Better get this finished so George doesn’t have a conniption and we can talk.”
“You’re right. The last thing we need is for George to have a fit.”
Andronaisa laughed. She went to her room and left Kurt to his cleaning as she dialed her best friend.
Chapter Twelve
“So let me get this straight,” Andronaisa started half an hour later.
Kurt had finished cleaning up the mess he and Michael made in the living room by the time Andronaisa finished chatting with Stephane, and now the two were seated on the living room couch.
“So let me get this straight, you’re a werewolf and we’re mates?”
Kurt nodded. “Yes.”
“But...how is that even possible? I mean I’m a human. I thought... humans and werewolves weren’t allowed to mate. I mean, at least from what I’ve read.”
Kurt shifted in his seat, pulling a leg underneath him. “From as long as I remember, mating between werewolves and any other creatures was forbidden. That includes humans. But talking with my mom, it seems like times are changing. And it's becoming more and more permissible.”
“Huh. So that kind of explains this pull I’ve felt whenever you were near. I never understood it but now I do.” Andronaisa had more than just a pull whenever Kurt was near. She immediately wanted him. On more than one occasion, she would feel herself getting wet just because he was near. “Did you ever feel that pull?”
“Of course he did. Why do you think it was so hard for him to control himself when we went over for dinner?” George said, entering the living room.
“George!” Kurt groaned.
“What, is this a private conversation? Maybe you shouldn’t have it in the house then.”
Kurt shook his head. “No. George. But do you have to expose all of my secrets?”
George laughed, sitting down next to Andronaisa. “Kurt, first of all, they’re not secrets. Second of all, if Andronaisa is your future mate, then it's only fair that she knows.”
Kurt just grumbled and Andronaisa frowned, “I’m curious about a few things though.”
“Like what?” Kurt cocked his head at her.
“Well, for one, what are we going to do about Michael? You know, I never actually knew he was a werewolf all this time? But he’s really adamant about me getting back to him.”
Kurt nodded, “I’m going to have to challenge him.”
Andronaisa’s eyes widened. “You mean...like what happened earlier?”
Kurt shook his head, “No. Worse. A mating challenge ends in death. Either I kill him or he kills me.”
“Wait, there’s no, like, submission? I heard about werewolves having to submit,” George wondered.
“That’s for an alpha bat
tle. That’s specifically for the role of Alpha of the pack. No. There’s no submission in a mating challenge battle.”
“I... I don’t want you to die for me, Kurt.” Andronaisa pursed her lips.
Kurt chuckled and gave her lips a little kiss. “It's the way of our kind. Every species has a mating ritual, so to speak. This is ours. When there are two alphas going for the same omega, they have to challenge each other. The one who remains alive is the one the omega goes with.”
“So if you die, I have to go back to Michael.” Andronaisa slumped.
“I’ll just be sure not to die.”
“Have you ever done this before?” George asked.
“No. This is something that occurs only when you’ve found your mate or you think you’ve found your mate. I never found or thought I found my mate until now.”
“Is the reaction the same for all werewolves?” Andronaisa asked.
“I really don’t know. I’ve never asked. I mean, I know for my mom, whenever she was around my father, she had a hard time controlling her shift. Kind of like me. But there was something else you said you were wondering?”
“Oh. Yeah. Um, I was curious about the... um, the mating.” Andronaisa blushed.
Kurt chuckled at how nervous she was. “It's just the same as dating, with a small exception. I have to announce you as my mate to the pack. That’s the first step, then I court you, which means I take you out on dates, shower you with gifts, the whole nine and then when we’re ready, we mate.”
“Mate?” Andronaisa blinked.
“Have sex,” George offered. “He claims you in a night of hot passionate sex.”
Kurt laughed, “Something like that. I’m sure it’s different, though. Claiming involves biting.”
“Wouldn’t that change me?” Andronaisa asked.
Kurt shook his head, “Not if my saliva doesn’t connect with your blood.”
“So basically if you bite me but don’t break the skin,” Andronaisa said. Her mouth went dry at the thought of Kurt biting her. The thought was just so hot.
George looked at Andronaisa, and her eyes went wide. “Oh, my god! You actually like that idea? Who knew you were a kinky bitch?”
Andronaisa laughed, “Shut up George! That’s not it at all.” she blushed.
George just laughed and then shook her head before looking at Kurt. “So when does all this take place? Do you announce Andronaisa as your mate before you go into battle with Michael?”
Kurt nodded. “That seems the logical solution, but I say we wait until we finally solve the case. Just because we’re so close.”
“What if Michael leaves before then?” George asked.
“He wouldn’t. He came here to do a job so he’ll complete his job. Besides, he’s not going to leave here without Andronaisa so...it's only right.”
Andronaisa glanced out the window. She really hoped that Kurt was right, and Michael didn’t try anything sneaky.
THE NEXT MORNING KURT was sitting at the table waiting for his mother to wake up. He really wasn’t looking forward to hearing her say I told you so, but he needed to let her know. First, he’d tell his mother and then he’d announce it to the pack. After they solved the case.
“Morning Kurt, I thought you’d be gone already,” Rosa said as she entered the kitchen.
“Yeah. I’m getting ready to leave, but I need to talk you about something.”
Rosa frowned as she sat down. “Oh, is everything okay?”
Kurt swallowed and nodded. “Yeah. It's just... I’ve found my mate.”
Rosa beamed, “Oh Kurt! That’s such wonderful news! It's that new girl Andronaisa, right?”
“How’d you know?”
Rosa laughed. “I had a feeling. I could tell by the way you had a hard time controlling your shift around her the other night at dinner.”
Kurt flushed and waited for his mother to say it. He was confused when she didn’t say anything else. “Wait, what, no I told you so?”
Rosa smiled. “No baby. There’s no need. I’m not that cruel. So when are you going to announce it to the pack?”
“Once I get this case wrapped up, which is pretty soon. Oh, um, there’s something else.”
Rosa raised her eyebrow. She never saw her son look so nervous and worried. “Are you worried about the mating issue because she’s human?”
Kurt shook his head. “No. It's not that. I... I’m going to have to have a mating battle.”
“What?! Kurt?”
Kurt sighed, “Her ex is in town, and he’s really trying to get her back.”
“Oh man. Well, you better announce it to the pack soon so you’ll have the others to have your back.”
Kurt nodded and stood. “I will Ma, I promise. I better go. I don’t wanna be late.” He kissed her cheek.
“Be safe, baby,” Rosa replied as he headed out the door.
As Kurt took his regular route to the precinct, he couldn’t help but think about Andronaisa. That kiss they shared, well there were several kisses they had but the biggest one... the one after his fight with Michael... he just couldn’t get out his mind. The taste of her...the feel of her lips on his...it was...there wasn’t really a word to describe it, but Kurt loved it. It made him wonder if she always tasted like that combination of pineapple and hot sauce.
Kurt [sent 7:15:54]: Hey Andronaisa. I’m pretty sure you’re asleep, but I just wanted to say good morning.
